And If Republicans Control the Senate, Scalia is the Model Supreme Court Justice

Somerville, MA –Republican Scott Brown chose far right conservative Antonin Scalia as his model Supreme Court Justice when asked about it at this week’s Senate debate.  A new radio ad from Elizabeth Warren for Massachusetts highlights Brown’s choice Scalia’s extreme views on women’s rights, and what’s at stake if Republicans win control of the Senate and confirmation of the next Justice.

Scalia is an outspoken opponent of Roe v. Wade and has said that the Constitution doesn’t protect women against discrimination.  Scott Brown has said that he might be the deciding vote on the control of the Senate – a Republican senate would support nominees, like Scalia, who want to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Brown’s admiration of Scalia shows once again, that when it comes to the issues that matter – like who sits on the Supreme Court – women just can’t count on Scott Brown. And it reinforces the impact on the Supreme Court if Republicans gain control of the Senate.

Scott Brown:  Let me see here.  That’s a great question.  I think Justice Scalia is a very good judge.

Announcer:  Justice Scalia is “adamantly opposed” to Roe v. Wade.  He said it was quote “utterly idiotic” and he ruled against equal pay for women and said the Constitution doesn’t protect women from discrimination.

Brown:  I think Justice Scalia is a very good judge.

Announcer:  When Scott Brown had the chance to vote for a pro-choice Supreme Court Justice, he voted ‘no’, opposing President Obama’s nominee.  There are now four Supreme Court Justices over age 70; the next one could overturn Roe v Wade.  If Scott Brown wins, and Republicans take over the Senate, what kind of Supreme Court Justice would a Republican Senate confirm?
